Prayer Guide

What is a prayer guide?

Prayer is important. We wanted to give you a tool to help your prayer time be impactful. This is a guide, or a template, that you can use when you pray. All you have to do is remember the acronym P-R-A-Y.

P – Pause

“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”

Psalm 46:10

Slow down, take a few breaths, and let your thoughts, worries, and emotions from the day slow down as you approach the throne of God.

R – Rejoice

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.

Philippians  4:4

Spend time rejoicing in God’s character, nature, attributes, and promises. Pray back to Him truths He’s revealed about Himself from scripture.

A – Ask

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

1 John 5:14-15

Ask God for the things on your heart and mind. You don’t have to pray “perfect” prayers or say special words for God to hear you, but know that He hears us because of Christ. Even if you aren’t sure exactly what God’s will is, ask Him for the things on your heart because He is your good Father. He wants to hear your requests, even if he doesn’t answer the way you’re expecting.

Y – Yield

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:1-2

Spend time submitting your plans, hopes, and requests to God. He is trustworthy. He might answer some requests with a “no”; others with a “yes”; and others with “not yet.” Any of these responses are based on God’s good character as our Father who loves us. You may need to specifically pray through the things you just asked and yield them back to God.
