Salt Retreat Recap

Salt Retreat Recap

November 12, 2018 | Nate Kaloupek

The Salt Company had our Fall Retreat October 19th-21st. First, let me say, I love the Fall Retreat. It is an incredible opportunity for students to step out of their normal rhythms and get some time to grow in their faith with community. We had close to 70 students come this year, up from 40 last year. Praise God for the growth we have seen.

This year we brought in David Livingston, the Director of The Salt Company at Veritas Iowa City, to preach four messages on a topic called “The Road to Emmaus.” The series comes from Luke 24, where the risen Christ walks disciples through the Old Testament, interpreting how it points to Him. David preached on the Flood, the tower of Babel, Abraham offering Isaac and Rahab. David is a great preacher and pastor and walked our students through the intense realities of these stories. More than that, he helped us see the clear ways God was pointing to Jesus through these men and women’s histories.

Beyond the sessions of worship and teaching, our students broke off into small groups to process the messages, spent time hanging out around the campfire, played ridiculous games, had a Space Jam themed dance, and made life-long memories. After the Fall Retreat we often find connection groups more bonded, more authentic with each other and leaning in for the rest of the year.

Thank you for loving the next generation, sponsoring students and praying for our students as they continue to grow in Christ.
