Colossians Kickoff

Colossians Kickoff

August 27, 2018 | Jake Each

With the competing ideas in our own culture that too often creep into the church seeking to add themselves to our Christian beliefs we need this teaching more than ever. Out of Paul’s pastoral concern of seeing people get caught up and led astray in religious regulations and false spiritual pursuits he beautifully holds up to us the sufficiency of Christ. Showing us that all things are by him, through him, and for him. Join us this fall as we study Paul’s letter to the Colossians and seek to fall deeper in love with our Savior. Together learning to live lives completely rooted in him and understanding that all of life is all for Jesus.

With these new spiritual ideas growing in popularity in this young church, Epaphras goes to visit Paul in prison in Rome to seek his help. Paul in response sends this letter back to the church in Colossae refuting the false teaching by holding up the truth to them, giving us one of the most Christ-centered books of the Bible.

Colossae was a smaller city with a very diverse population. There were many different religious and philosophical view points represented in this city. It wasn't long until the false ideas and worldviews of the culture began to creep into the church claiming to offer a greater spiritual experience than what could be found in Christ alone.

In Colossae there was a church that most likely was started by a man named Epaphras who in all likelihood heard Paul preach the gospel when he was in Ephesus. Epaphras took that good news of Jesus Christ back home to share with others. Over time a church was formed.

We are excited to kick off our new book study this Fall. Starting September 2nd we will begin a 12 week study of the book of Colossians.
