Reflections on Race and Christianity: Part two

by Feb 10, 2020VeritasBlog

Today is part two of our blog series on race and Christianity. Our history has been deeply stained by racism. It’s a sin issue of our past and the present and it’s on us to develop a better understanding of its roots and repercussions. Our goal through this series is to put content in front of you to help you think critically and biblically about this important issue. In our politically charged world, just breaching the topic of race can bring hostile feelings to the surface, make us feel uncomfortable, or like conversation has taken a political turn. We’re quick to have our tribes and sides with our arguments ready to go. But issues of race, racism, and racial unity are biblical issues, and ones that we should be open to having conversations about. Painful issues, yes. Uncomfortable issues, yes. But biblical issues, nonetheless. As followers of Christ our first “tribe or side” is the side of Christ first and foremost, therefore, we need to be people who know our Bibles, who have feelings, thoughts, and actions shaped by our Bibles. Perhaps we’ve let our politicians with political perspectives own a conversation that Christians with a biblical perspective should have more of a voice in. Our hope is that we would be people who bring biblical truth into this conversation in our various corners of the world.

This week we have two short interviews with two men that I have personally admired so much. The first link is an interview with Crawford Loritts. The second link is a similar interview with H.B. Charles—two very godly men and great preachers of God’s Word. Again, it would be good to discuss these with your connection group this week.

Baptism – What and Why

I remember my baptism well. It has been frozen in my mind… quite literally. The water tank heater broke and when a friend and I entered the baptismal with the pastor, the water was not any warmer than what would have been coming out a garden hose! It was...
