I’m so excited to be able to introduce Chris Henely to you. Chris is joining our team as the worship director, and will be giving leadership to our worship ministry at Veritas. I’ve been able to work with Chris over the past couple of weeks, and he’s really great, and I can’t wait for you to meet him. He’s full of energy, excitement, and is one of the most encouraging individuals I’ve met.
How did you become a christian?
I was a freshman in college struggling to make my own way through life. I had “checked” all the faith boxes off as I grew up – I went to church, I attended youth group, and I did my best to be a “good” person. My choices and behavior led to broken relationships and a worldly perspective. Thankfully, God had a plan and used a teammate to share the good news of the Gospel with me. Jesus changed my heart!
Why did you become a worship leader?
Music has always been a significant part of my life. My grandma was a music teacher and my mom always sang to the radio and encouraged us to join in. When Jesus started to be the center of my life, I started serving on worship teams in various capacities. I never considered myself to be “qualified” to lead worship, but God used an experience around my grandmother’s deathbed to show me that it was never about me but always about Him. My family gathered around my grandmother who professed her confidence in Jesus as she was taking her last breaths and I started to do the only thing I thought made sense – I led my family in worship.
What’s your favorite downtime thing to do?
Play with my kids, be outside, take photos, or rest!
Tell us about your family.
My wife and I have been married for almost 8 years, and have been blessed with two children, Henry, our 2 year old son, and Gracelyn, our 3 year old daughter! We spent a decade in Grundy Center, IA before moving to the area. We have two dogs, Charleigh, an 8 year old lab, and Sadie, a golden doodle and new addition to our family!
What’s your favorite treat and why?
Either deer jerky or Sour Patch Kids Extreme. I’ve always been a sucker for good jerky and sugary candy!
What’s your favorite kind of music?
I find that most people answer this the same and it might sound cliche but it’s true, I can and do appreciate almost any type of music! You can catch me listening to old hymns, new contemporary worship, Coldplay, heavy metal, orchestra, etc. I like it all!
What’s the most useless piece of information you know?
When you say “a, e, i, o, and u” the shape of your mouth gets smaller with each vowel you say.
