Early on in high school I was looking for my life to be defined by my athletic performances, friends, and relationships, yet never felt like that was enough. I think God began to slowly stir my affections for Jesus towards the end of high school. Although I wasn’t moving towards knowing him through His Word yet, I wanted to be apart of community centered around him.
During my freshman year of college I began to attend Veritas with some older students from Cornell and then eventually, Salt Company as well. It wasn’t until my sophomore year in college that I realized that this Good News of Jesus was actually the most urgent and worthy cause I’d ever come across. It became more and more clear to me that my salvation was blood-bought and had no association with how much I pleased God.
Through The Salt Company, God has begun to grow my understanding of the Gospel, enabling me to truly start following Jesus. The desires for my life have been under reconstruction by God, shifting from wanting accomplishments for my own name and instead wanting to see the name of Jesus be worshipped and the Gospel shared. As a student at Cornell College, my campus is filled with people wanting to find community, identity, and a worthy cause to make the rest of their lives about. Our campus has a void that only Jesus can fill, and we’ve already seen him start to change hearts and bring more students to Salt Company this year than ever before. My vision for Cornell is for a growing number of young men and women to be salt and light on our campus, emboldened to point other students toward Jesus. We pray for connection groups to multiply and more disciples to be made!
Cuyler is a senior at Cornell College, studying Exercise Science and running on the track and cross country teams. Starting his sophomore year, Cuyler came on his own from Cornell to the Salt Company, his friends that brought him having graduated. A year later, he has brought many students with him to the Salt Company, seen the start of a connection group on Cornell’s campus, and joined The Salt Company staff as an intern.
