This is our last week in our blog series on race and Christianity. Hopefully the content that we’ve put in front of you the past three weeks has been inspiring, informative, convicting, and yes, hope giving.
There’s no doubt that we live in a very divided world where our tendency is to identify with other things before we identify with Christ, but what we have to understand is that before we are republican or democrat, before we are white or black, before we are male or female, we are Christians. As Peter tells us, “you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy (1 Peter 2:9-10). We have been called out of the darkness of racism into a marvelous light of unity in Christ. A shared mercy brings us together, and our togetherness is one way we proclaim the excellencies of him who has rescued us. Because of sin, racial unity can be a huge challenge, but it is worth the struggle because ultimately unity is about the glory of God.
