Throughout God’s story unfolding in history, we see that hurt, pain, brokenness, and sin have been part of the human experience since Adam and Eve chose to disobey God. Often the response to a person who is struggling with these things is, “You need counseling.”
Reframing Counseling as Gospel Shepherding
Jesus’ work of redemption is full and complete and has far-reaching implications for every human being. Therefore when others express a need for counseling, we affirm the truth that the gospel addresses every challenge we face.
The only question that remains is “What is the best context for a person to be immersed in a gospel shaping perspective that will help address his or her issues?”
We believe that God has designed the church body in such a way that the needs of people can be met by the body. Our Connection Groups are communities of ordinary people who, because of the gospel, are organizing their lives around Jesus’ mission of making disciples. As they live a gospel-centered life, the deep needs and hurts of people can be addressed with great effectiveness. But we recognize that people going through challenging times often need refreshment in their walk of faith by more specific care. We call this process Gospel Shepherding.
So whether in a connection group setting, one on one, or as a couple, biblically trained mentors, members of the Pastoral team, or recommended vocational Christian counselors will meet with you to counsel and minister to your needs with the truth and grace of Jesus in the application of the Gospel to your life.
Jesus came to undo all the effects of Adam and Eve’s choice. He came to redeem and restore “all things”
